Timothy “Quỳ” Dang, a cherished educator, devoted family man, and respected member of his community, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on February 21, 2026. Born in the small village of Quang Ngai, Vietnam, Timothy's journey was one of determination, resilience, and compassion, which left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
Quỳ served in the military as a lieutenant for the Republic of Vietnam during the ViệtNam war alongside American forces. When the war ended, Quỳ would go on to teach English to a generation of students who later immigrated to the United States. Quỳ maintained a profound connection with his roots and his former colleagues and students from IVS Quảng Ngãi, Trường Ong Dave, nurturing these relationships for over 50 years. Quỳ’s mentoring helped to create prosperity for the many families that came to America. His contributions to his many students continue to span generations. Quỳ continued his teaching upon his life post war in America.
After completing his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Massachusetts, Boston in Education, Timothy furthered his academic pursuits by also earning his Master's in Education. His passion for knowledge and his desire to empower others through learning defined his career. He worked for many years as a high school teacher in both the Chelsea and Malden school districts in Massachusetts, where his influence extended far beyond the classroom. Timothy's dedication to education was paralleled by his entrepreneurial spirit, as evidenced by his successful ownership of a Liquor Store in Maynard, which he managed for several years.
Timothy's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Lan Nguyễn, and their children, who continue to embody the values he instilled in them. His son Michael Dang, with wife Diem Võ, and their sons, William, Henry, and Jason of Peabody, MA, remember him as a guiding light and a source of unwavering support. His daughter Thao Đặng, her husband Thiên Nguyễn, and their sons, Nam, Tony, and Tyler of Boxford, MA, cherish the countless memories and lessons learned from their father. Timothy's love for reading, particularly history books, was a well-known aspect of his life, reflecting his endless curiosity and desire to understand the world. However, his greatest joy was found in the time spent with his family, whom he adored more than anything. The rich tapestry of stories and experiences they shared will be cherished and passed down through generations.
