Thomas M. Rooney, born on November 26, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on April 23, 2026, in Brockton, Massachusetts. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather whose life was marked by loyalty, service, and steady kindness.
He was the son of Virginia Connorton and was also raised by Francis Connorton, a foundation that helped shape the values of hard work, responsibility, and care for others that remained with him throughout his life. Thomas was raised in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School, where he built friendships and memories that stayed with him for many years. He carried the lessons of his upbringing into every part of his life and was known for his dependable nature and quiet strength.
Thomas served his country in the Vietnam War as an Air Force veteran, a role he carried with pride and honor. After his military service, he made Canton his home for more than 50 years, becoming a familiar and trusted presence in the community. He worked for UPS as a supervisor, where he was respected for his leadership, dedication, and strong work ethic. He approached his responsibilities with seriousness and care, and those who worked with him knew they could count on his steady guidance.
Family was at the center of Thomas’s life. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to Margaret “Peggy” Rooney, and together they built a life filled with love, devotion, and enduring partnership. He was a proud father to Michael Rooney and his wife Gina of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and to Kate Dwomoh and her husband Kofi of Wrentham. He found great joy in his role as grandfather to Thomas Rooney, Connor Rooney, Quinn Dwomoh, and Bailey Dwomoh. His family was his greatest source of pride, and he cherished every opportunity to be present in their lives.
Thomas was also involved in the lives of young people through coaching. He coached Pop Warner football and Little League when his children were young. He understood the importance of teamwork, discipline, and confidence, and he brought those values to every team he guided. His influence reached far beyond the playing field, as he helped shape the character of many young athletes through his example and support.
In later years, one of Thomas’s greatest pleasures was being Papa. He attended his grandchildren’s soccer and baseball games. He was a devoted presence on the sidelines, always cheering, always watching, and always proud. These moments reflected the deep love he held for his family and the joy he found in being part of their lives. His encouragement and enthusiasm will be remembered as part of the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
Thomas M. Rooney will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country and his commitment to his work. He lived a full and meaningful life, and he touched the hearts of many through his kindness, reliability, and love. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
