Susanne Osberg Obituary

Susanne Busey Osberg of Sharon passed away on July 23, 2025 following a brief battle with cancer. She was 72.

Susanne was a dedicated musician and an endlessly curious soul whose open, loving attitude gained her countless friends across the country. She is survived by her brother, Bill Busey, her daughter, Molly Osberg, and a diverse social circle that came to be like family over the course of her adventurous life.

Susanne was born in the small farming community of Bagdad, Kentucky, to Eleanor (Duncan) Busey and George Busey on March 1, 1953. An early interest in piano propelled her to move to Massachusetts to study. She received a Bachelor of Music from the Boston Conservatory in 1972 and a Master of Music degree in 1984. On the East Coast, Susanne forged lifelong friendships with an eclectic group of fellow artists, and began a long-term love affair with Boston sports--particularly the Red Sox. She also met her first husband, Michael Dewart, and her second, John Osberg, in the city. John and Susanne welcomed their daughter Molly in 1988 and were together until his death in 1999. Susanne was also predeceased by her subsequent partner, David Radovsky, who passed in 2008.

Over the course of her career, Susanne found a number of ways to indulge her love of her instrument: As an opera accompanist and coach, a private piano teacher, a music instructor, and a gigging musician. For over a decade she played every summer with the Britt Festival orchestra in Jacksonville, Oregon. She was also a critical member of church communities near her home. Susanne worked as the music director for St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Foxboro from 2001 to 2009 and held the same role at Our Lady of Sorrows in Sharon from 2009 to 2014.

Susanne loved to travel, camping with her daughter from an early age up and down the West Coast during her summers playing the Britt Festival. She spent time in 50 states and visited many foreign countries including Thailand, Vietnam, and New Zealand. Later in life Susanne traversed the U.S. National Park System for months at a time in her beloved camper, often bringing a keyboard along to practice her craft. Throughout she retained a strong connection to Kentucky, visiting often and encouraging childhood friends to join her on the road.

A memorial service will be held at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton, Massachusetts at 11:00 AM on September 27th to celebrate Susanne’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the National Park Foundation or the National Parks Conservation Association
