Surayee Barrantes left this world surrounded by loved ones on February 20, 2026, in Boston, Massachusetts, at the age of 60. Born on November 3, 1965, in the vibrant town of San Marcos, Costa Rica, Surayee carried the warmth, strength, and beauty of her homeland with her throughout her life.
She was the cherished daughter of Fernando and Nelly Barrantes and a devoted and loving mother to Surayee Perez and her husband Carlos Gonzalez, Carolyn Perez, and Nelmarys Rodriguez. Motherhood was Surayee’s greatest pride, and she embraced it with unwavering love and dedication.
She was also a beloved sister to Arellys Barrantes, Marlene Barrantes, Ronny Barrantes, Franklin Barrantes, and the late Greivin Barrantes. Surayee’s nurturing spirit extended deeply to her six treasured grandchildren — Aaliah, Anthony, Ailani, Charlize, Everly, and her baby boy, Jeremiah — as well as her many nieces and nephews. She adored them beyond measure, and they were the light of her life.
Raised among the natural beauty of Costa Rica, Surayee’s passion for learning eventually led her to MassBay Community College, where she pursued her love of education. She went on to build a meaningful career as a preschool teacher, touching the lives of countless children and families with her patience, kindness, and radiant smile. Her classroom was a place of warmth, encouragement, and joy.
Outside of her career, Surayee found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved crocheting, pouring care and creativity into every piece she made. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, always returning home with stories, laughter, and memories to share. Music filled her days and reflected her vibrant and joyful spirit. She was often the heart of any gathering — bringing energy, laughter, and love wherever she went.
Surayee lived a life rooted in love, friendship, and generosity. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit continues to shine through the lives she touched.
May she rest in eternal peace, forever remembered and forever loved. In her honor, we carry forward her words- “ Pura Vida”- and the beautiful way she lived them.
