Shirley A. Schofield, a cherished pillar of the Sharon, Massachusetts, community, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024, at the age of 96. Born on October 25, 1928, in Norwood, MA, to Frank and Dora (Clement) Harris, Shirley lived a life marked by dedication to her family, her work, and her beloved town of Sharon.

A lifelong resident of Sharon, Shirley graduated from the local high school with a fondness for learning and an artistic flair that would color her pursuits. She continued her education at Dean Jr. College and further honed her creative talents at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Her educational background laid the foundation for what would be a life rich in contribution and service.

Before dedicating over two decades of service to the First Congregational Church of Sharon, Shirley worked as a secretary at an advertising company. Her meticulous nature and warm demeanor made her an indispensable part of the church community for 24 years. Her commitment extended beyond her professional endeavors as she engaged deeply with the fabric of her town.

Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert F. Schofield, and her brother, Frank "Buzz" Harris Jr. She leaves behind a legacy through her children, Robin Goodband (Greg) of West Wareham, Richard H. Schofield (Joanne) of Foxboro, and David W. Schofield (Katya) of South Boston. Her memory will also be treasured by her four grandchildren, Chris, Eric, Colleen, Vasya who will carry forward her lessons of love and kindness.

Not only was Shirley a devoted mother and grandmother, but she was also a beacon of history and tradition in Sharon. As a member of the Sharon Historic Commission and Sharon Historical Society, she was often referred to as the unofficial town historian, a title she held with pride and humility. Her passion for history was infectious, and she was always ready to share a story or fact about her beloved town. She was an active member of the Congregational Church in Sharon where she was a member of the Dorcas Society since 1948, and a member of the Sharon Garden Club and the Sharon Fortnightly Club in Sharon. She was also twice named Sharon Rotary Club Citizen of the Year.

Her leadership and commitment were further exemplified as the past chairman of the trustees of Sharon Girl Scout Trust. Shirley's involvement did not end there; she was an active member of various other town committees, where her insights and dedication helped shape the community she so dearly loved.

Shirley's interests and activities were a testament to her belief in civic duty and her love for her community. She had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life and to make a lasting impact through her volunteerism and community involvement.

Shirley A. Schofield lived a life that was rich in experiences, love, and service. Her passing is a significant loss to all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were touched by her generosity, her wisdom, and her unwavering commitment to the town of Sharon.
