Scott "Toot" J. MacLeod

Scott J. MacLeod, known as "Toot" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 70, in Norwood, MA. Born in Boston, MA, on September 21, 1954, to his parents Colin and Thelma (Jackson) MacLeod, Scott was a lifelong resident of Canton and a strong presence of the local community.

After graduating with the class of '73 from Canton High School, Scott embarked on a career that would span several decades, defined by his love for the Mack 10-Wheeler Dump Truck. He worked as a truck driver for several respected companies, including Sam White & Son's, Nick Bruno & Son's, R. Zoppo Corp, Gioioso & Son's Construction, and QRS Equipment. His commitment to his work was unparalleled, and his expertise behind the wheel was recognized by all who knew him.

In time, Scott's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own company, S. J. MacLeod Trucking.  Some of the projects he worked on included The Big Dig, Deer Island, Fore River Shipyard to name a few.   His mother, Thel, worked by his side as his administrative assistant, supporting the growth of the business that was a source of great pride for their family.  Toot shut the doors in 2009 and retired.

Scott's passion for trucks extended beyond his professional life. He was an active member of both the American Trucking Historical Society and the Antique Truck Club of America, where he connected with fellow enthusiasts and shared his extensive knowledge of trucking history and heritage. His enthusiasm for preserving the legacy of trucking was infectious, and he was always eager to engage in discussions about vintage models and the evolution of the industry.

Those who knew Scott will remember him for his distinct voice, his outgoing spirit, telling a good story, walking into a room and just being Toot.   He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life and would offer words of advice to younger generations as well as talking about the old days in the construction business.   He will be deeply missed by his friends, colleagues, and the trucking community he so dearly loved.

Scott leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, love for his family and his craft. As he embarks on his final journey, his memory will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Toot’s story is one of a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved.

He is survived by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Scott's life will be celebrated in the hearts of those he leaves behind, and his spirit will continue to inspire future generations of truckers who share his passion.

As we bid farewell to Toot, we take solace in knowing that his journey continues that stretches beyond our sight, with the promise of peace and freedom. He has left an indelible mark on this world, and his story will be told for years to come by those who cherished him most. Rest in peace, Toot, and may your roads be ever clear and your journeys ever safe.

A service will be held at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 14th at 11:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday May 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Please come in pick-up trucks, if possible, for the procession from the funeral home to the burial at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
