Robert P. Lyons Jr. age 93, of Canton passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, at Newbridge on the Charles. He was a man who led a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and devotion to his faith.
The son of the late Robert Sr. and Alice Lyons, Robert was raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Dorchester. He was a sibling to Stephen Lyons of Taunton, Phillip Lyons of Hanson, and the late Joseph Lyons and Maureen Cribben. Robert's educational journey saw him attend St. Gregory’s School and English High School and after which he moved to Canton in 1955, a town he would call home for the rest of his life.
Robert's commitment to service was exemplified by his time in the Air Force during the Korean War. Following his military service, he embarked on a career that spanned over three decades as a dedicated technician at the Canton Post Office. His work ethic and reliability made him a respected figure both among his colleagues and within the community.
Beloved husband of the late Dolly Lyons (Faith), to whom he was a devoted husband. Together, they blended their families, with Robert becoming a cherished step-father to the late Charles Steffy, William Steffy, Richard Steffy and Wilbert Steffy. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to 16 grandchildren, a great grandfather to 29 great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandfather to 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Faith played a central role in Robert's life. He was a pillar of the Faith Baptist Church in Stoughton, where he served not only as a deacon and trustee but also shared his wisdom as a Sunday School Teacher. His commitment to his faith and his community was unwavering, and his influence as a spiritual mentor touched many lives.
Robert's life was one of unwavering commitment to the ideals he held dear. He modeled a life of integrity, service, and faith that will continue to inspire those who knew him. His gentle guidance and steadfast presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
As we bid farewell to Robert P. Lyons Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by love, service, and faith. His legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him, and his impact will be felt for generations to come.
Relatives and friends invited to attend a Funeral Service at the Faith Baptist Church 18 Stoughton St. Stoughton Tuesday September 2nd at 11:00 am. Visiting hour in the church prior to the service Tuesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton
