Robert M. Lombard, age 78, of Norwood, after courageously undergoing treatments for cancer for several months passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and so many dear friends. Bob was the beloved husband of Debra A. (DiNicola) with whom he shared 39 wonderful years of marriage. Loving father of Kristin Lombard O’Donnell and her husband John of West Roxbury, MA and Mike Lombard of Walpole, MA. Cherished grandfather (Papi) of Mairead (Maggie), Isabelle and Emma O’Donnell. Bob is also survived by his dear brother Richard F. Lombard and his wife Linda of Milton, MA and his nieces Julie (Nick) Power and Jill (Sean) Timlin and his loving sister Ann Lombard of Norwood. Bob will be dearly missed by his sister-in- law Barbara McKenney and her husband John, his niece, Amanda McKenney Salzberg and her husband Ben, and his nephew Thomas McKenney and his wife Caitlin who were such a big part of his life.
Born on February 23, 1947, in Dorchester, MA, he was raised in Quincy, MA where he established many lifelong friendships. Bob graduated from North Quincy High School and was an Eagle Scout, where he learned about community service and dedication to helping others. Bob also served in the US Army Reserves, where he continued to exemplify the spirit of duty and patriotism.
Bob worked for many years for the United States Postal Service, where he was a familiar and friendly face to the residents of Quincy as a Letter Carrier. His dedication to his work was evident in the way he performed his duties with care and diligence. During his last years at USPS Bob was assigned to the State House in Boston, where he continued to serve the public until his well-deserved retirement.
Bob had many passions and enjoyed a wide range of music from blues to rock. Music often filled his home with melodies and memories, while his love for food and cooking brought friends and family together. At many gatherings, family and friends made requests for Bob to make his special “baked beans” and it became a special dish at the table. An avid golfer, Bob spent countless hours on the greens of the Sharon Country Club (SCC), where his sportsmanship and camaraderie were as much a part of his game as his skill with a club. In the years being a member of SCC, he developed close and lasting friendships with many of its members.
Bob loved traveling and taking trips with his wife, Deb. Bob was particularly fond of Savanah, Georgia where he and Deb visited frequently. Bob was especially happy about one trip to Georgia where he, Deb and his children and grandchildren spent an amazing week together at a house on the Herb River in Isle of Hope, Georgia. Bob happily recounted to many friends later how his youngest granddaughter learned to ride a bike on this vacation and it was a most special memory for all of them. Bob also loved going to Vermont where he and Deb would visit close friends and they made many happy memories of time spent there. A big moment for Bob was his first trip abroad, not a fan of flying at all, he took a trip to Italy in 2005, because he wanted to fulfill a dream his wife had of going to Italy. As things turned out, and much to his surprise, Bob fell in love with Italy and they returned to Italy two more times. On their last trip to Italy, they spent most of their time in Tuscany, where they met wonderful people and established friendships which continued after they returned home.
Dogs held a special place in his heart, particularly his beloved dogs, Reba, Carly and more recently, Velvet, who were his constant companions and brought him immeasurable happiness.
Bob was loved by many, and his way with people demonstrated the essence of life, simply being kind, caring and showing love for others. He will be deeply missed, but the light of his spirit will remain forever in the hearts of his loved ones.

Bob’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and to Brigham Women’s Faulkner Emergency Department. The compassion and love they provided Bob while he was there helped both him and all the family during a most unbearable time. Each and every one of them treated him as if he were one of their family members. We will never forget what they did for Bob.
