Ramona Garrett Obituary

Ramona Elizabeth Garrett, 94, of Sharon, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024. Ramona was born to John Garrett Sr. and Lula Garrett on December 14, 1929.

After graduating from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Ramona’s thirst for knowledge led her to Indiana University. Later, she transferred to Northeastern University, Boston where she earned her bachelor’s degree. Her academic journey laid the groundwork for a fulfilling career at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she served in the student aid office as a Financial Aid Advisor for over three decades.

Ramona was known for being self-assured, independent, curious, generous, and family-oriented. She was passionate about life. Her interests were varied. She loved to read and her bookshelves were bursting with romance and mystery novels. She was a great bowler and played in a league in the 1960s. She also had a surprising fascination with the lottery. Every week, she eagerly purchased tickets, her eyes sparkling with anticipation as she imagined the possibilities that lie within each number. When she was fortunate to win, she shared it with her family. She especially enjoyed harmonizing with her sister’s singing group known locally as “The Garretts”. Whether preforming on stage or rehearsing at home, one could see the joy she found in the family connection radiating from her face. From the quiet contemplation of a book to the soul-stirring melodies of a song, and the tantalizing allure of lottery ticket, Ramona’s interests reflected her boundless curiosity. Her legacy is one of love, strength, and an unwavering commitment to her family.

Ramona Garrett is survived by her daughter, Brecke A. Trent of Sharon, sisters Emogene Cadogan of Holbrook and Sidnetta Johnson (Errol Sr) of Holbrook, many nephews, nieces, and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, John Garrett Sr. and Lula Bell Grant, siblings John Garrett Jr., Charles Garrett Sr., Margaret Wilson, and Evelyn Garrett Porter.

In remembrance of Ramona, her life will be honored in a way she would have wished with stories of strength, laughter that echo her joyous energy, and melodies that recall the songs she so loved to sing.

Services will be private.
