Nicola Carafa Obituary

Nicola Carafa, age 92, a cherished pillar of his community and a beacon of familial love, passed away peacefully at Hope Hospice in Providence, Rhode Island. Born in the picturesque region of Abbruzzo, Italy, Nicola's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his family, his tireless work ethic, and his endearing passion for the simple pleasures of life.

Nicola's story began in Abbruzzo, where he was raised and educated, laying the foundation for a life of dedication and hard work. In 2003, he made Mansfield his home, after having lived in Canton for 32 years—a testament to his ability to cultivate lasting roots and build a life filled with love and community.

At the heart of Nicola's world was his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Serafina (DiMartino), with whom he shared a love that was the cornerstone of their family. A devoted father, he instilled values of integrity and compassion in his children: Thomas Carafa and his wife Eva of Syracuse, Roseann Sable and her husband Lee of Mansfield, Nicholas Carafa and his wife Sheryl of Mansfield, and Anthony Carafa of Stoughton. His guiding hand and loving presence will be deeply missed.

Nicola cherished his siblings, sharing a special bond with Vittorio Carafa of Italy, Maria Tuppini of Australia, Iolanda Giraldi of Australia, and he held dear the memory of the late Filomena Carafa, Francesco Carafa, and Assunta Pace. His role as a caring brother was just one of the many facets of his generous spirit.

His legacy continues through his nine grandchildren: Nicholas, Jillian, Matthew, Rachel, Sarah, Gina, Sam, Erica, and Mark Carafa, and one great-grandson, Tyson, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. Nicola's love for his family was his greatest joy, and the moments shared with them were the treasures of his life. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, in laws, and friends.

Professionally, Nicola was respected by all who knew him through his many years of dedicated service with the Construction Union Local 721 in Bridgewater. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were not only evident in his career but also in the way he lived his life.

Nicola's interests were a reflection of his love for life and connection to his roots. He found solace and happiness in working in his garden, a skill and passion likely reminiscent of his early days in the lush landscapes of Italy. His homemade wine was more than a hobby; it was an art form, a piece of his heritage that he lovingly shared with family and friends.

To describe Nicola as loving and friendly only begins to capture the essence of his character. He was a man who greeted life with a warm smile, a kind word, and an open heart. His friendliness was not just a trait but a way of being, touching the lives of everyone he encountered.

Nicola Carafa's journey through life was one marked by love, laughter, and an unshakable sense of community. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact he has left on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will forever be a guiding light, a reminder of the beauty of a life well-lived, and the enduring power of love and family.
