Newell H. Taylor Sr., a cherished pillar of his community and a beacon of strength and love to his family, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, at the age of 91 in Brockton, MA. Born on November 28, 1933, in Stoughton, MA, Newell lived a full and vibrant life marked by his dedication to family, his country, and the simple joys that nature offered him.
After bravely serving his nation as an army veteran of the Korean War, Newell returned to his roots in Massachusetts, where he built a life grounded in service and hard work. For many years, he was the trusted mechanic for the town of Canton, where his skillful hands and keen eye kept the heart of the town running smoothly. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and generosity, always ready with a helping hand or a word of advice.
Newell's life was a tapestry woven with love and laughter, shared with his beloved wife, the late Marianne Taylor, and their children. He was a devoted father to Teresa Pearson of Canton, the late Nancy Bonito, Katherine Taylor of Stoughton, Newell Taylor Jr. of Stoughton, and Thomas Taylor of Brockton. The legacy of his love was perhaps most vividly seen in the eyes of his 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored as their loving "Papa."
An outdoorsman at heart, Newell found solace and excitement in the embrace of nature. He was an avid fisherman, a skill he passed down through generations, and a hunter who respected the land and its creatures. His passion for camping led to countless family stories told under the stars, while his love for stock car racing brought exhilarating Saturdays spent cheering on his favorite drivers. Above all, Newell valued time spent with his family—the cornerstone of his life.
Newell's life story is one of resilience, joy, and the creation of a family legacy that will endure through the memories he has left behind. His presence will be deeply missed, but the example he set as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we bid farewell to Newell H. Taylor Sr., we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved. His was a life that touched so many others, and the echo of his laughter and the warmth of his smile will remain with us always. Though he has set sail on his final voyage, the compass of his spirit will guide us as we navigate the waters of our own lives. Rest in peace, dear Newell, until we meet again.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, held at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home in Canton, on Thursday, July 10th at 3 p.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service, from 2-3 p.m. Burial will be private.
