Maureen F. Morgan, a cherished educator, advocate, and mentor passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025 at her home in Stoughton, MA, ending a long and arduous battle with cancer. Born on August 11, 1967, in Brighton, MA, Maureen's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family and her profound impact on the lives of countless children with special needs.
The daughter of Paul and Mary Ellen Fitzgerald, Maureen was a beacon of love and strength within her family. She shared an enduring bond with her parents, her sister Kristen Hooton and husband Stuart of Canton, and their daughters Kayla and Jessica. Although predeceased by her brothers Paul A. Fitzgerald and Daniel M. Fitzgerald, Maureen's spirit remains a comforting presence in the lives of those who knew her.
Her career was a reflection of her commitment to making a difference. Maureen's early volunteer work at the Mass Hospital School ignited a calling to support children with special needs. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Lesley University, and worked briefly at Tufts Educational Daycare before attaining a Master’s Degree in Education from Harvard University. She brought her passion and talents to the Attleboro Public Schools, where she worked for many years, forging friendships that would last a lifetime and touching the lives of countless children and their families with her kindness, patience, and innovative teaching methods.
Returning to academia, Maureen served as Faculty Director of the Wellesley College Child Study Center, as well as teaching courses hoping to inspire future educators, sharing her knowledge and experience to shape the next generation of teachers. Her legacy lives on through the many students she taught and the educators she mentored, all of whom carry a piece of her wisdom and compassion with them.
Maureen's personal life was as rich and fulfilling as her professional one. She was the beloved wife of Robert Morgan, and together they built a life full of love and laughter. A devoted mother to Ryan Morgan of Stoughton and Benjamin Morgan of Franklin, Maureen instilled in her sons the values of kindness, perseverance, and the importance of education. Her guidance and love will continue to influence them throughout their lives.
Maureen's warmth and generosity extended far beyond her immediate family. She is also survived by a large extended family and network of friends whose lives were brightened by her presence. Her relationships with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends were characterized by her thoughtful advice, her endearing sense of humor, and her ability to make each person feel uniquely valued.
As we say goodbye to Maureen F. Morgan, we celebrate a life abundantly lived and a legacy that will endure through the many lives she has touched. Her memory will be cherished, her contributions to education honored, and her spirit forever woven into the fabric of the community she so lovingly served. Maureen's passing leaves a void in our hearts, but her influence remains a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 14th, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton on Wednesday, October 15th at 10 a.m. Burial at Knollwood Memorial Park.
