Mary Ellen O'Donnell

A memorial mass will be held, Tuesday, April 1st at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's the Evangelist at 174 Humphrey St. Swampscott, MA 01907. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm St. Everett, MA 02149.

Mary Ellen O’Donnell, beloved sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully and comfortably on Wednesday February 12, 2025 surrounded by family and close friends after a courageous and selfless battle with cancer. Mary was born on September 16th, 1960 in Detroit, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel F. O’Donnell and Mary M. McDermott, and her brother Michael B. O’Donnell.

Mary is survived by her siblings: Neil O’Donnell, Daniel F. O’Donnell (Gabriella Holl), Kathleen O’Donnell (Tom Lauritsen), all of Springfield, VT, Eileen Ajluni (Victor) of Northville, MI, and Timothy O’Donnell.  She was the beloved aunt of Miles O’Donnell of Springfield, VT, Sean Ajluni of Webster, NY, and Ian Ajluni of Royal Oak, MI.

Mary had a great Irish spirit about her, with a good sense of humor and a quick wit. She was known to many for her career in the food and beverage industry spanning across Boston, Detroit, and Cape Cod.  She was notably employed at Anthony’s Pier 4 (Boston seaport), Hawthorne by the Sea (Swampscott, MA), and Cummaquid Inn (Yarmouth Port, MA, under the management of the Athanas family).

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Mary’s memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street Unit B-102, Danvers, MA 019123, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, or the Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
