Obituary

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.  Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Norwood (549 Washington Street) Monday morning at 11:00.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Canton.

Mary T. O'Brien, a lifelong resident of Mission Hill and Canton, MA, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023. Born and raised in Mission Hill, Mary was a loving and selfless woman, known for her kindness and her strong faith in Catholicism. She was an integral part of her church community and was actively involved in various charities.

Mary was a proud graduate of Mission Hill, class of 1955. After her graduation, she embarked on a successful career as an Office Manager for Office Products Inc., where she served for over 30 years. Mary was a dedicated professional, known for her strong work ethic and commitment to her role.

In 1956, Mary married the love of her life, Richard K. O'Brien Sr., who predeceased her in 2015. Together, they raised a large and loving family. Mary is survived by her children Richard K. O'Brien Jr. and his wife Julee of Taunton, MA, Michael T. O'Brien of Canton, MA, Kathleen M. Hoke and her husband Steve of Brandon, FL, Thomas M. O'Brien of Taunton, MA, Maria C. O'Brien of Lakeland, FL, James M. O'Brien and his wife Maureen of Hudson, MA, JoAnne E. Randlett and her husband Mark of Franklin, MA, Christine M. Dyckman and her husband David of Norton, MA, and Matthew A. O'Brien of Durango, Colorado. She was predeceased by her son John F. O'Brien.

Mary was a proud grandmother to seventeen grandchildren: Michael Richard, Sean, Kelly, Marc, Bridgid, John, Aurora, Alexyis, Cameron, Marissa, Maggie, Cassidy, Patrick, Daniel, Hannah, Colleen, and Liam. She also had the joy of being a great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren: James, Ava, Sevi, Grayson, Cameron, Cody, and Jordyn. Mary was the last surviving sibling of Edward Byrne and Hugh Byrne, both deceased.

Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed spending her free time immersed in a good book. She also cherished the simple pleasure of going out for lunch with her friends. Mary's strong faith was a guiding force in her life, and she was very involved in the church community, participating in the CYO and Pre-Cana. Her commitment to her faith and her community was a testament to her selfless nature.

Mary's life was a testament to her loving and kind spirit. She was a beacon of light to her family and friends, always putting others before herself. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.

Mary's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family. She will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and guide those she left behind.
