Mary J. Curran (Hynes), age 85, of Canton, formerly of Roslindale, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, in Dedham. Born November 21, 1939, in Galway, Ireland, Mary's life began as the daughter of Thomas and Delia Hynes. Her journey led her across the ocean to the United States, where she cultivated a life rich in love and dedication to her family.
Mary's early years in Galway laid a strong foundation for the remarkable woman she would become. After completing her high school education, she ventured to America at 19, initially setting roots in Roslindale It was there that she and her late husband, James F. Curran, built a life together and raised their beloved children. Mary's life was a testament to her resilience and adaptability, eventually calling Canton her home for the last 28 years
A devoted mother, Mary's love knew no bounds when it came to her children, Michael Curran of Norwood, Marie Pezzone and her husband John of Canton, James Curran of Hyde Park, Joanne O'Sullivan and her husband Kevin of Canton, and John Curran of Norwood. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of her siblings, Thomas Hynes and Nora Brown of Galway, and remembering her late brothers Patrick, Michael, Richard, and her sister Eileen Fleming.
Mary's professional life was characterized by her role as a housekeeper for the Porcellian Club at Harvard. Her dedication and strong work ethic were admired by all who knew her. She approached her work with the same care and attention that she devoted to her family.
Her interests were simple yet profound, reflecting the joy she found in everyday life. Mary's love for playing the lottery and scratch tickets was matched by her passion for knitting, a pastime that not only brought her relaxation but also produced countless treasures for those she loved. Above all, Mary found her greatest joy in the role of grandmother. Babysitting her grandchildren was not just a duty but a source of immense happiness, and the bonds she formed with each of them were unbreakable.
Mary's legacy is further celebrated by her grandchildren, Jessica Pagani, Ashley Deal, Kristin Pezzone, Caitlin O’Sullivan, Joseph O’Sullivan and Carly Wright, and two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Bella Mary. who will carry her love and lessons forward. As a grandmother, she was a constant presence, providing guidance, laughter, and an endless reservoir of stories and warmth.
Mary's life was a beautiful tapestry of dedication, love, and selflessness. Her memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she has departed from this world, the impact of her spirit will continue to resonate through the generations of her family.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Sunday May 18th from 2:00 to 5:00 pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Church, Canton on Monday, May 19th, at 10:00 a.m.. Burial at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in Boston.
