Lorraine "Rainie" Costa (Marathas) Obituary

Lorraine H. “Rainie” Costa (Marathas), age 66 of Hingham, previously of Canton and Berkley passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease on June 24th.  Born in Norwood, she was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School Class of 1975.  She previously lived in Berkley for 42 years, Raynham for 3 years and enjoyed the last 3 years at The Residence at Penniman Hill in Hingham. Rainie worked for many years in the Banking Industry and started her career at the Bank of Boston and retired from Webster Bank as the Senior Vice President of Product Management. 

Rainie loved her family.  She was happiest when she was talking and spending time with family and friends.   She enjoyed warm weather, spending time on the beach, lounging by a pool, and sampling every form of chocolate known.

Beloved wife of the late Jesse Costa and daughter of the late Helen (Hart) Marathas and Peter Marathas. 

She is survived by her siblings, Bill (Mary Murphy) Marathas  of Randolph, Steve (Tammy) Marathas of Middleboro, Dawn (Willy) Warner of Hanover, Peter (Mary) Marathas of Scituate, Karen (John) Correia of Canton, Robin (Ed) Gendreau of North Easton, her granddaughter Madison McCune of Dighton, stepmother, Susan Marathas of North Easton,   three stepchildren, Rhonda Medeiros of Westport,  Jessica Radley of North Carolina, and Chad Costa of Taunton, her brother and sisters-in-law Ken (Bonnie) Costa and Joyce (Keith) Wrigley (both of Florida) and Mary Jane Souza of Berkley, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and other grandchildren who knew her to be a funny, kind and generous person.   She enjoyed  lifelong friendships with Judy (Kaiser) Thomas, Barbara (Curtis) Brady and Dona (Pechavar) LaMonte.

Rainie was preceded in death by her, brother, Paul Marathas, stepdaughter, Kelly McCune, sister-in-law Jean (Aberts) Marathas and nephew, James Marathas, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom she loved dearly.

Rainie’s family wishes to thank all of the compassionate staff and friends at the Residence at Penniman Hill,  and the wonderful caregivers from North River Homecare and Norwell VNA and Hospice for their collective care and support.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Thursday 4:00 to 7:00 pm.  Funeral service at the Congregational Church of Canton (1541 Washington St, Canton, MA) Friday morning at 10:00.  Burial Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
