Lorraine R. Thomas, 91, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025.
Born in 1934, in Dighton, MA, Lorraine was the loving daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Rego Silvia. She was the devoted and beloved wife of the late Christy P. Thomas. Her early life in Dighton was one of simple joys, spending time with her father helping him on their vegetable farm. She was a proud graduate of Dighton High School, class of 1953. Lorraine is survived by her son, Gabriel Moitozo Jr, and wife, Susan of Mattapoisett, her daughter, Debra Becker, and husband, Stephan, of Fairhaven and her stepson, Keith Thomas of Wrentham. The loves of her life were her grandchildren, Jason Macdonald, Angela Peters, Amy St. Pierre, Caitlin Macdonald Whitmore, Sarah Moitozo, Melissa Silva and Katie Thomas, as well as her great grandchildren, Ava Barrile, Connor Macdonald, Collin St. Pierre, Logan Macdonald, Skye Whitmore, Alexandra Peters, Robert Peters, Alivia St. Pierre, Sage Whitmore, Harper and Hazel Silva. Her beloved poodles, Sammy and Cocoa, were her constant companions and brought her endless happiness.
Lorraine’s entire professional career was devoted to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Physical Therapist Assistant at nursing homes and then at New England Sinai Hospital, where she worked with dedication and compassion until her retirement. Her dedication to her work was an extension of her nurturing personality. She touched the lives of countless individuals through her loving care.
She was a fierce and tireless advocate for her family, friends, and patients. Though petite, at just 4’10”, Lorraine had a strength and determination that inspired everyone around her. Once her mind was made up, there was no changing it. She never hesitated to speak her truth, and those who knew her always knew where they stood.
Lorraine loved shopping, camping, and traveling. One of her favorite memories was a cross-country trip with Christy—she often said she would have moved to AZ if her family had been close by. Above all else, she loved caring for her friends and grandchildren. Her favorite roles in life were being a caretaker, but mostly being “Grammy.”
Lorraine’s fierce love, strong will, and generous spirit live on through her family and all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service held at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home on Thursday, November 6th at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. Burial at Knollwood Memorial Park.
