Lawrence G. Mackenzie, of Sharon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 23, 2024. Born in Concord MA, Lawrence—affectionately known by friends and family as Larry or Lala.
A proud graduate of Andover High School, Lawrence served in the United States Army, following his military service, Lawrence was a lifelong Insurance Agent, where he spent many years with Prudential Insurance and Boston Mutual then many years with Mackenzie-Udoji Insurance Agency. At home, Lawrence was the beloved husband of the late Jeanne M. (Gerrior) Mackenzie, and together they built a loving family. He was a devoted father to Gregg and his wife Leslie of Farmington, ME, Glenn and his wife Claire of Mansfield, Gary and his wife Trisha of Sharon, and Grant of Upton. His grandchildren, Brooke Hernon (Mackenzie) and husband Thomas, Jill Mackenzie, Thomas Mackenzie and his wife Brianna Mackenzie (Rogers), Gavin Mackenzie, Gianna Mackenzie, and four great-grandchildren, who know him as Grampy will carry forward the legacy of his kindness and generosity.
He was a well-known figure on the local sports scene, where he coached youth hockey. His friendly demeanor and encouraging words left a lasting impact on the many lives he touched through his coaching.
An avid golfer, Lawrence could be found on the greens, sharing laughs and forging lifelong friendships with his fellow golf buddies. His love for the sport was matched only by the camaraderie and sportsmanship he displayed, traits that endeared him to his golfing friends.
His smile, his hearty laugh, and his genuine interest in the well-being of others made him a friend to many and an example of the kindness we all aspire to embody. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring influence he has left on his family, his friends, and the Sharon community.
