Kathleen "Katty" Gibson Obituary

Kathleen "Katty" A. Gibson (O'Toole), age 83 of Canton, passed away peacefully at her home on December 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 5, 1942 in Boston, Kathleen was a caregiver in the purest form of the word and her life was a testament to this.

She is survived by devoted daughter, Marybeth Santos and husband, Justin of Canton, and dedicated son, Kevin P. Gibson and wife Audrey (Wiederhold) of Canton. They took loving care of her and made her final wish of living out her days at home come true. Kathleen is predeceased by her husband, James E. Gibson and her son, James M. Gibson.

She cherished moments spent with her late mother, Bridget O’Toole and late sister, Mary Sullivan.

Caring for her grandchildren, Sophia and Will Santos, Kevin and Emily Gibson, and  grand-nephews Joseph, Thomas, and Charles Vaughan brought her great joy. Each of them was touched by her unconditional love.

She also leaves behind dozens of nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Special love to nephew, Michael "Big Mike” O’Toole, who was like another brother to her, and niece, Bridget Vaughan, who was like another daughter to her.

Raised in South Boston, Kathleen was a proud product of her hometown and her Irish Catholic heritage. She is the last of the West 9th Street O'Tooles to pass on, and we can only imagine the joyful family reunion with her dearly missed parents, Bridget and Michael, brothers John "Junie," Patrick "Patsy," Robert "Bobby," Paul, Francis "Frank," and Thomas "Tommy," and her sister and best friend, Mary.

Kathleen worked as a secretary at Gillette in South Boston, where she met the love of her life, James "Jim" Gibson. They reunite now in heaven, two years after he passed away. The most special reunion will be with her late son, James M. "Jimmy" Gibson, who she missed achingly every day and held in her heart always.

Beyond her family, Kathleen loved gardening, knitting, especially the handmade Christmas stockings that became cherished keepsakes for all, and passionately following her beloved Red Sox.

Kathleen's life was one of compassion, love, and nurturing care. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide, and her memory will be cherished forever.
