Joseph Mollomo Jr. Obituary

Joseph Mollomo, 84, of Walpole, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June  21, 2026, following a brief illness.

Born on November 8,1941, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Joe was the son of the late Helen and Joseph  Mollomo. He graduated from Dorchester High School and went on to enjoy a long career as a chef at  Phillips Old Colony House, the Ritz-Carlton, and many other restaurants fortunate enough to have him.  Joe was respected for his talent, and was featured by the Phantom Gourmet for one of his recipes. He  was noted for his excellent work ethic, warm personality, and left a lasting impression on everyone he  met.

Joe was funny, kind, and generous. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and with  his life partner of 28 years, Mary Kream. He especially looked forward to annual family trips to Saratoga  Springs each summer. Joe loved his summer vacations at the beach in New Hampshire with his  daughter Lisa, and enjoyed going to the movies with her. He looked forward to his conversations with his  son Steven, which often included discussing the New England Patriots. He had a special relationship with  his late sister Yvonne Balsamo and her husband Sal.

His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Joe loved spending time with his grandchildren, and was proud  of all their achievements and adventures, including watching his grandson Gavin play football on a Friday  night, or grabbing lunch with his granddaughters Caleigh and Maeve. Joe instilled a love of cooking in his  grandchildren and created fond memories teaching them how to cook his famous chicken parm. He loved  to attend Julia's dance recitals, Shaun and D.J.'s tai kwon do competitions, Max's baseball games, and all their concerts and plays at their high schools and colleges, and the most fun, the sleepovers for both the Ormonds and the Fitzgerald’s, but not all at the  same time! He could also often be found tending to his garden, working in the yard, or enjoying a good  poker game with family and friends.

Joe is survived by his beloved life partner, Mary Kream of Walpole; his cherished children, Lisa Fitzgerald  and her partner, William Berman, of Braintree, Steven Mollomo and his wife, Kathleen, of Anaheim,  California; and Mary’s daughter, Jennifer Ormond and her husband, Donny, of Quincy. He was the proud  grandfather of Caleigh Fitzgerald, Maeve Fitzgerald, Gavin Fitzgerald, D.J. Ormond, Shaun Ormond, Julia  Ormond, Max Ormond, Jade Mollomo, Ryan Mollomo, Taylor Mollomo, and Jessica Mollomo. He is also  survived by Mary’s loving brother and dear friend, James Erker of Walpole.

Joe was the loving brother to the late Yvonne Balsamo and the late Lucille Wright. He was the uncle of  Anthony Balsamo and his wife, Mary, of Florida; his goddaughter, Linda Wirta and her husband, Bill, of  Canton; Vicki Balsamo and her wife, Mindy Thompson, of Newton, his nephews Vance and Keith  Rockwell, and the late Todd Rockwell, all of Maryland. He also leaves behind many cherished great nieces and great-nephews.

Joe will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home in Canton  on Thursday, June 25, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday,  June 26, at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial at Canton Corner Cemetery.
