James d'Entremont Obituary

James “Jim" d'Entremont, formerly of Canton, a cherished family man and respected community member, passed away peacefully at his home in Duxbury on January 28, 2025. Born in East Boston, MA, Jim carried a local pride throughout his life. He was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen “Kay” d'Entremont (Geoghegan) and the late Mildred “Millie” d'Entremont (Bennett), and a cornerstone to his loving family.

Raised in East Boston, Jim was a graduate of Boston English High School. His commitment to his country was evident as he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Jim's sense of duty and hard work continued throughout his life, especially in his career. For many years, he worked in construction at Grid Flat Slab in Dorchester and later dedicated himself to the maintenance department at Blue Hills Regional Technical School in Canton before retiring. Jim's professional life was marked by a strong work ethic and an ever-friendly demeanor, making him a well-respected and appreciated colleague.

Jim was the devoted father of James J. d'Entremont Jr. and his wife Susan of Katy, TX, Jill d'Entremont Jones and her husband Stephen of Milford, Kathy d'Entremont McLaughlin of E. Bridgewater, Marie d'Entremont of Franklin, and Patrick d'Entremont and his wife Kelly of N. Andover. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Herbert d'Entremont, and is survived by his sister-in-law, Anne d'Entremont. Jim's legacy will live on through his 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, who will remember him for his good nature, generosity and solid character.

Jim's life was one of service, not only to his country but also to his faith and community. He was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Canton. There, he was an active volunteer with the Pre-Cana program and took pride in assisting with the collections at weekend masses.  Jim’s faith influenced the way he lived his life including his willingness to help others.

Family was the center of Jim's world, and he cherished moments spent with his loved ones. His presence at family gatherings was a source of comfort, and his warm greetings, light-hearted humor and broad smile were always endearing. Jim's interests extended to a passion for sports, and he was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. His enthusiasm for his teams was infectious, and he always enjoyed bantering about their performance with friends and family.

Described by those who knew him as friendly and kind, Jim's warm smile and authentic personality made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He had a unique ability to connect with people and make them smile.  His positive outlook and the genuine interest he showed in the lives of others were the hallmarks of a life well-lived.

As we bid farewell to James "Jim" d'Entremont, we celebrate a life that was filled with love, service, and commitment. How he acted in life has left a lasting impact on his family, friends, and community, and his memory will be treasured. Jim's legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Jim's life and love will be honored with a Celebration of Life that will reflect the deep bonds he shared with those around him, which will be held at a future date and announced on the Dockray & Thomas website.  Rest in peace, Jim; you will be missed and your spirit lives on in the hearts of all you touched.
