James P. Kelly, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 9, 2025. Born in Somerville,
MA, and raised in Brighton, James was a man whose presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew him.
A graduate of St. Columbkille's High School in Brighton, Jimmy furthered his education by attending Suffolk University.
Jimmy dedicated many years of service as the Assistant Clerk of Suffolk Superior Court, a role in which he was highly
respected and where he left a lasting impact before his well-earned retirement.
Jimmy was the beloved husband of Betty Kelly (Keenan), and their enduring love was a testament to their shared values
and mutual respect. He was a devoted father to Elizabeth Halloran and her husband Frank of Walpole, James Kelly and his
wife Karen of Norwood, and Michael Kelly and his wife Jillian of Canton. His role as a grandfather brought him immense
pride and joy, cherishing every moment spent with Kayla, Emma, Avery, Riley Halloran, and Jimmy Kelly. Jimmy’s siblings,
Ellen Sullivan of Chelmsford, William Kelly of W. Roxbury, and he also held dear memories of his late brother John Kelly.
An avid golfer, Jimmy could often be found on the greens of Ponkapoag (Ponki) Golf Club in Canton where he enjoyed the
good company of friends. Known for his gift of gab, you weren’t a stranger after talking to him for five minutes. Jimmy’s
fondness for the Cape saw him spend many cherished moments there, creating lasting memories with family and friends.
When he wasn’t at the beach, Jimmy could be found at family cookouts where he always enjoyed a good meal. He also
enjoyed the sunnier climate of Naples, FL, where he wintered with his wife, embracing the warmth and the leisurely pace
of life.
Jimmy’s friendly demeanor and loving nature were the cornerstone of his character. His approachable manner and
genuine care for others were traits that drew people to him.
Jimmy is survived by his family and friends that adored and respected him. His legacy is one of love, kindness, and a life
joyfully lived. He will be profoundly missed, yet his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to
have felt the warmth of his smile and the generosity of his heart.
