James Gibson Obituary

James E. Gibson, of Canton, known affectionately to friends and family as Jim, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton. Born in Quincy, MA, Jim led a full and vibrant life, marked by his devotion to family, his commitment to his work, and his passion for sports and leisure activities.

Jim was the beloved husband of Kathleen A. (O'Toole) and a devoted father to Marybeth Santos and her husband Justin of Canton and Kevin P. Gibson and his wife Audrey (Wiederhold) of Canton. He was also the proud grandfather of Sophia and Will Santos and Kevin and Emily Gibson. Jim was predeceased by his son, James M. Gibson and his brother, Dennis Gibson. His family will remember him as a kind, friendly, and selfless man who always put the needs of others before his own.

Jim graduated from Braintree High School and later earned a Culinary Certificate from Boston University. His dedication to the culinary arts was evident in his career. After serving in the National Guard for four years following high school, Jim worked as the cafeteria manager at the Gillette Company in South Boston for 38 years. His passion for food was not confined to the cafeteria; he later owned and operated the Gourmet Expressions Restaurant at Gillette for 10 years before retiring. His culinary skills and dedication to his craft were admired by all who had the pleasure of tasting his meals.

An avid sports fan and talented basketball player during his time at Braintree High School, Jim continued his love for sports throughout his life. He enjoyed watching horse and dog races and was known to try his luck at the casinos. Golf was another of Jim's passions. He was a longtime member of the Wampatuck Country Club, where he spent many happy hours on the fairways and greens. His love for these activities was infectious, and he often shared these passions with his friends and family.

Jim's life was defined by his kindness and generosity. He was always ready with a warm smile and a friendly word, making everyone feel welcome and appreciated. His selfless nature and dedication to his family, friends, and work were an inspiration to all who knew him. In remembering Jim, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man who touched the lives of many with his kindness, his generosity, and his love for life. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His family and friends will miss him dearly, but they take comfort in the many happy memories they shared with him.

James E. Gibson: a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, caring brother, and a friend to many. We remember him with love and gratitude for the joy and warmth he brought into our lives. May he rest in peace.
