Ida P. (Kilduff) Emde

Ida P. Emde passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 18, 1942, in Boston, MA, Ida’s life was defined by love, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to her family, friends, and community.

Ida was the beloved wife of the late Robert Emde, with whom she shared many cherished years of marriage. Together, they raised a loving family that included their children: Maureen Harlan and her husband Ted of Old Orchard Beach, ME; Joseph Emde and his wife Laurel Gerdine of Concord; Christine Emde of Norwood; Eric Emde and his wife Kerry of Canton; and the late Linda A. Emde. Ida embraced her role as a grandmother with joy and pride, forever devoted to Brendan and Elizabeth Harlan; Cameron, Sophie, Chelsea, and Colton Emde-Gerdine; and Laura and Michael Emde.

She was the sister of Sr. Margaret Kilduff RSCJ of Brighton and was predeceased by her siblings Celia Connaughton, Mary Driscoll, Agnes Corrazzini, John, Patrick, Michael, Dennis, and Joseph Kilduff.

Raised in Jamaica Plain, Ida was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Roxbury. She moved to Canton, where she lived for 56 years and became a cherished part of the community. A devoted homemaker, friend and neighbor, her home was known for its warmth, its open door, and a gathering place for the neighborhood kids. Her chocolate chip cookies became a signature treat — loved by her children, her grandchildren, neighbors, and anyone fortunate enough to receive them.

Ida gave to others without hesitation. She was a dedicated catechist who taught CCD at St. Gerard Majella in Canton, sharing her faith with generations of children. Her deep love for her family was constant, and the values she passed down remain an enduring part of each generation. She was also an active member of the Blue Hill Civic Association, always ready to lend her voice, her time, or her support to further causes that benefited the broader community.

She found joy in hobbies that connected her to people. She was an accomplished Irish step dancer, earning numerous regional competitions. She loved gathering family and friends around her table, where meals, desserts, and heartfelt conversation came together effortlessly.

Ida’s life was a reflection of her extraordinary kindness. She was known by all as one of the sweetest, most gentle people they had ever met. Yet beneath that gentleness was remarkable resilience — a determination to overcome every obstacle so her children and loved ones were always cared for. She treated every person with respect and always found time to do something for someone who needed her.

Ida leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to shine in the hearts of her family and all whose lives were touched by her grace and generosity.

Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton, MA on Sunday, November 30th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Church, Canton on Monday, December 1st, at 10:00am. Burial at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
