Grace A. Gangemi (Barrasso), a cherished figure known for her wit, kindness, and devout faith, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Milton, MA. Born in Boston, MA, Grace's journey through life was marked by her dedication to family, her passion for community service, and her unwavering spirit that touched the lives of many.
Grace's early years in Boston laid the foundation for a life of achievement and service. She was a proud alumna of Girls High School and Simmons College, where she received an education that would serve her well throughout her professional and personal endeavors. Grace worked in the Boston headquarters of John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company for her entire career, from 1950 until retiring in 1982.
Throughout her life, Grace was an embodiment of love and commitment. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael Gangemi, and together they shared a bond that was both tender and enduring.
Family ties were of utmost importance to Grace, and she maintained a close relationship with her siblings, Thomas P. Barrasso of FL and Marie A. Barrasso of Foxboro. She was also a devoted aunt to Thomas Barrasso of Amesbury and Robert A. Barrasso of Boston, sharing with them her zest for life and her nurturing spirit. Her role as a grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she cherished every moment with her grandchildren Michael, Eleanor, and Julia Gangemi, and Devin and Caitlin Murphy. She is also survived by her step-children, Susan Murphy and her husband Jim of CA, Janice Higgins and her husband Brian of South Hadley and Michael Gangemi and his wife Martha of Cohasset.
Grace's commitment to her community was evident through her active participation in the Canton League of Women's Voters and the Canton Catholic Women's Club. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she served with devotion as an active parishioner of St. John the Evangelist (Now Oscar Romero Parish) Church in Canton. In these roles, she not only contributed her time and talents but also inspired others to engage in civic duty and spiritual growth.
