George Mulford Obituary

George Mulford of Stoughton died peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was ninety-three.

Born in Dorchester, he was the son of the late William Mulford and Donalda (Fleury) Mulford.  He graduated from Dorchester High School for Boys in 1950.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, traveling to western parts of the country. After deployment, he returned home to Boston, and met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Fitzpatrick.  Together they moved to Canton and raised a large family.  George worked at Itek Corporation for many years as an administrator in the manufacturing division. He contributed to the crafting of cameras used in spy satellites during the Cold War, and he and his colleagues were later honored in a ceremony at the White House.

After George retired in 1991, he and Betty moved to Florida. George loved the warmer environment of the South. He enjoyed gardening, dancing, swimming, traveling to various Caribbean ports on cruises, shopping for and repairing antiques, and selling those antiques at flea markets. A talented woodworker and craftsman, he could fix anything.

He loved his many grandchildren. He enjoyed playing “Gin Rummy” card games, being part of family celebrations, and golfing at Wampatuck Country Club with his children. Family members will always remember “Papa’s top 10 list” and his animated dancing at weddings.

He will be remembered by his son William Mulford of Canton (Susan), son Steven Mulford of Pocasset (Maggie), daughter Diane Morganelli of Stoughton (Richard), daughter Susan Carney of Canton (John), son George Mulford of Stoughton (Cecile), and daughter Nancy Mulford of Sudbury.  He also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his siblings William Mulford, Ronald Mulford and Marie Proulx, sister in law Dorothy Mulford, and many nieces and nephews.

He is pre-deceased by his brothers John (Jackie) and Herbert Mulford, his sister Claire Walker, sisters-in-law Grace, Carole, Irene, and Edith Mulford, brothers-in-law James Walker and Normand Proulx, nieces Donna Dunlea and Elaine Hammock, and great-granddaughter Lyla Toland.

A private memorial service for relatives will be held at a later date.

In his memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
