George W. Merrill of Norton, MA passed away peacefully on September 26, 2023.
Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, George was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend.
George was born on November 27, 1943, to the late William and Madelyn Merrill (Coyne). He was a proud Bostonian and carried the spirit of his hometown with him throughout his life, embodying the resilience and sense of strength that Boston is known for.
George enjoyed a long and accomplished career as a union Iron Worker. He was a proud member of Local 7 where he was instrumental in building impressive commercial structures throughout New England.
As a snowbird, George found joy in maintaining residence in Florida, particularly the years spent in Delray Beach and the joyous times at their hangout spot on Deerfield Beach.
George had many hobbies. As an avid member of local vintage car clubs, he took great pride in his award winning 1964 ½ Mustang convertible. He also got great pleasure from casual chit chats with friends over Dunkin Donut decaf coffee with 2 Sweet ‘n Low accompanied by Old Fashioned and Jelly donuts.
George is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Carol B. Merrill (Horvitz). Together, they shared an inseparable bond that spanned decades, their love story serving as a testament to their commitment to each other. There wasn’t a day that went by that George did not think about his Carol.
George also leaves behind his beloved son, Darren Merrill and wife Yvonne and grandson Trevor Merrill of North Andover, MA. his treasured sister and brother, Shelia MacMaster of Lowell, MA and Bill Merrill and wife Leeann of Tempe, AZ, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, dear friends and valued neighbors.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 4th at 11:45 AM at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St. Sharon, MA 02067
