George Hannon Obituary

George F. Hannon, of Lakeville, formerly of Canton, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, at the age of 88, in New Bedford, MA. Born on October 27, 1937, in Cambridge, MA, He was the son of the late Myrtle and James Hannon, George's life was marked by devotion, honor, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone he met.

George's journey began as the son of a close-knit family in Cambridge and continued as he laid down roots in Lakeville, MA, where he lived for over 15 years. His early years in Canton, MA, were filled with the laughter and camaraderie that would become the hallmark of the Hannon home. It was there that he met and fell in love with his soulmate, Margaret T. Hannon who he met at an ice rink in Brighton. Their marriage, spanning over 65 years, was a testament to their enduring love, mutual respect, and shared joy in life's simple pleasures.

A proud father, George's legacy includes his loving children: Lisa Schiavone and her husband Carl of Lakeville, George Hannon and his wife Tranine of Orange Park, FL, Brian Hannon and his wife Ellen of Scituate, Sean Hannon and his wife the late Regan Hannon of Marshfield, Michael Hannon and his wife Kim of Canton, and Keith Hannon and his wife Julie of Canton. He was a guiding light to his 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply. George also shared a special bond with his brother, John Hannon and his wife Cathy of FL, with whom he shared countless memories. He was the son in law of the late Theresa and James Bannon and the brother in law of James Bannon.

George's dedication to his country was evident in his service with the United States Marines for 2 years, a period during which he exemplified courage and commitment. Upon his return to civilian life, he channeled his strong work ethic into the family business, Hannon Floor Co., where he spent many years installing hardwood floors with the same precision and care that he applied to every aspect of his life.

An avid camper and traveler, George found great joy in exploring the natural beauty of the United States  with his family. His sense of adventure and love for the outdoors were infectious, and many will remember the stories and laughter shared around campfires under the stars.  He also loved listening to country music.

George's life was one of meaningful connections, steadfast service, and heartfelt moments. He will be remembered for his unwavering support, his generous spirit, and the love he so freely gave. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit lives on in the memories they hold dear and in the love that continues to bind them together.

As we say farewell to George F. Hannon, we celebrate a life well-lived and cherish the profound impact he had on all of us. His was a life full of purpose, kindness, and an enduring legacy of family and friendship that will never be forgotten.
