Eric Jacobs Obituary

Eric S. Jacobs, a man whose loving heart, generous spirit, and delightful sense of humor brightened the lives of all who knew him, passed peacefully on May 26, 2024, at Massachusetts General Hospital. Born in the charming city of Newton, MA, Eric's journey through life was one marked by intellectual achievement, familial devotion, and a passion for the thrills of drag racing.

A proud graduate of Newton North High School, Eric's thirst for knowledge and dedication to his studies propelled him to the halls of UMass Lowell, where he not only earned his Bachelor's degree but went on to obtain both a Master's and a Ph.D. His academic pursuits paved the way for a distinguished career as a physicist, where he worked with diligence and distinction at several area laboratories.

Beyond his professional success, Eric's life was anchored by the deep love he shared with his family. He was the beloved husband of Diana M. Jacobs, whose companionship and support were the cornerstones of his happiness. Together, they nurtured a family that cherished every moment spent in his presence. Eric was a proud step-father to Christine Featherstone and her wife, Lorele, of Waltham, whose lives he enriched with his wisdom and wit.

The Jacobs family tree bore the fruits of Eric's kindness and humor in his role as a brother and uncle. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories with his brother, Father Philip C. Jacobs III OGS of Dorchester/Mattapoisett, and his nieces and nephews—Rachel Jacobs-Hodson, Chad P. Jacobs, and Gerald A. Jacobs—all of whom will remember their uncle as a constant source of joy and generosity.

Those who knew Eric will fondly recall his passion for drag racing, a hobby that showcased his adventurous spirit and mechanical prowess. Many a weekend was spent at New England Dragway, where Eric's skill and enthusiasm for the sport earned him the admiration and camaraderie of his fellow racers.

Eric's life was a testament to the virtues of love, humor, and generosity. His ability to make others laugh, to give without expecting anything in return, and to offer a loving embrace in times of need, defined the essence of his being. His absence will be deeply felt, but the impact of his life's work and the warmth of his personality will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The Jacobs family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Massachusetts General Hospital for their compassionate care. Eric's presence, once a vibrant and dynamic force in the lives of his family and friends, will now be a cherished memory that continues to inspire and guide them.

As we bid farewell to Eric S. Jacobs, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love. His laughter, once a melody in the symphony of our daily lives, now echoes as a sweet remembrance. Eric's story is not one of an end but a beautiful legacy that will be carried forward by those who loved him most.

In keeping with his spirited and adventurous nature, we imagine Eric embarking on his final journey with the same courage and zest for life that he embraced every day. May his journey be filled with the same excitement and fulfillment that he found on the race track and may his soul find eternal peace and happiness. Eric, you will be forever in our hearts, racing through the heavens with the same passion you had on earth, leaving behind a trail of love and laughter that will never fade.
