Edward L. Britt, age 95, of Medfield and Sandwich died peacefully at his home on Thursday November 9, 2023 , with his son by his side. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Ann M. "Nan" (Lynch) Britt.
Born in Brighton on October 25, 1928, he was the eighth of nine children of the late Michael and Sarah (Belson) Britt of West Concord and Acton.
Mr. Britt grew up in Concord and attended Concord Public Schools .
In 1946, he enlisted in the Army. During his enlistment he worked and studied electronics.
Following his military service, he attended Boston University and graduated with a Bachelors degree in 1954.
After college, he worked for Lab Electronics then for American Bosch Harvard corporation as a Radar Engineer.
He was then hired by Raytheon Corporation working in electronics and becoming the head engineer on the F105 Doppler Radar.
Starting in 1963 changed his career to real estate.
He became a successful and respected real estate developer in the Boston area and was a pioneer in converting buildings into condominiums. In 1969 he had converted 20 Gloucester Road into condominiums , which was the first conversion of residential buildings into condominiums in Boston.
In 1972, he branched out of the Boston area and went to Cape Cod where he developed Country Farm Estates and other Cape properties.
He happily spent his summers in Sandwich, Cape Cod, with his wife and children. where he could be found boating and enjoying the water. They loved to entertain friends and family on their yacht. They enjoyed visiting the villages and historic areas of the Cape.
He is survived by his son David Britt of Sandwich. David's children, Abigail Britt Mygan of Berkley, Ma. and Jonathan Britt of Sandwich. He especially cherished his great grandson Austin Mygan who was born on his great grandmother's 90th birthday.
He was predeceased by his daughter Barbara P Britt Currier. Barbara's children, Nathan Currier and Kendra Currier Smith and their children.
He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joseph Britt, Mary Case, Mabel Sloan, Marjorie Thoreson, Robert Britt (killed in action, WWII), Doris Butcher, Helen Cohenour and James Britt
Funeral and burial will be private at a later date at the Sandwich Cemetery.
