We are gathered in heart to honor and remember the life of Duncan Andrew MacLeod, a cherished man known fondly as Duncan, who entered into the presence of the Lord on February 16, 2026. Born in the winter on December 26, 1923 in Boston, Massachusetts, he just celebrated his 102nd Birthday.
Duncan's amazing life was marked by the warmth of his generous spirit and the brightness of his courageous heart. Duncan began his life as the son of Marie and Duncan, brother of Colin, Melba, Dolly, Nonie and Jessie, who were all waiting for him in heaven.
Upon graduating, he answered the call of his country to serve in World War II in the US Army. He was soon promoted to the rank of sergeant and eventually served in Italy as a member of the newly formed elite 10th Mountain Division ski troops.
After the War, Duncan's educational journey culminated in a Bachelor of Science in Business from Dartmouth College, a foundation that served him well in his distinguished career. He contributed many years of dedicated service as a Sales Manager for New England Telephone, where his integrity and commitment were the hallmarks of his professional life. His main clients were the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and The Massachusetts State Police. His contribution extended beyond his career as he served with distinction as Chairman of the Massachusetts Personnel Appeals Board, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to justice and fair play.
In 1958, Duncan married his beloved wife, Marilyn (Quinn), whose voice in song was the melody of his life until she predeceased him in 2018. Together they charted a life of love and adventure, their union blessed with four loving children: Jeanne Garifallou (George) of Marstons Mills, MA, Bonnie MacLeod of Canton, MA, and Duncan and Colin MacLeod of Raynham, MA. Duncan's legacy continued through his adored grandchildren, Lanie Fercilien of Watkinsville, GA, Abby MacLeod, and Colin MacLeod of Raynham, MA, and his cherished great-grandson, Beau Fercilien, just two years old, who infused his final days with joy and wonder.
A devout Catholic, Duncan lived his faith through acts of kindness and a deep sense of community. His life was a testament to the words of Jesus: He cherished his church families and lived a life that reflected his beliefs with grace and humility. Duncan's interests were as vast as his heart. He relished every opportunity to travel the globe with Marilyn, creating a tapestry of memories in every corner of the world. In earlier years he loved camping with Marilyn and the 4 kids at White Lake State Park in NH, and later on spent time with family on Cape Cod and Hilton Head Island, SC. In his later years, his joy was magnified in the company of his grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as the "Best Grampy Ever."
A man of unwavering generosity, Duncan gave selflessly, not only to his family but to all who knew him. His courage in the face of life's adversities was a source of inspiration, his love a comforting embrace to those who had the privilege to be a part of his life's journey.
As we say farewell to Duncan Andrew MacLeod, we remember a man who gave immeasurably and, in turn, received the love and respect of all who were touched by his presence. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Farewell, Duncan, your long wait to be reunited with Marilyn is finally over.\
