Dr. Erdem A. Ural

A graveside service will be held at Knollwood Memorial Park, Saturday July 8th at 9:00 am. Visiting hours will follow the graveside service at the Dockray and Thomas Funeral Home from 10:00-11:30 am. Relatives and friends are invited. 

Dr. Erdem A. Ural, a beloved long-time community member and father, passed away on July 4, 2023, in Boston, Massachusetts. Born in Bursa, Turkey on May 31, 1954, to the late Rifat Ural and Hatice (Ayti), Erdem's life was a testament to his intelligence, kindness, and loving nature.

Erdem received his early education in Turkey, where he excelled in his studies. His academic prowess earned him a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, which brought him to the United States in 1976. At the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Erdem completed his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, a field that became his lifelong passion and profession. He made significant contributions to the field of aerospace engineering, translating his academic brilliance into practical solutions as a self-employed consultant. His expertise and innovative thinking were highly sought after, and his work left an indelible mark on the industry.

Family was at the heart of Erdem's life. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Meral Ural, and a loving father to his children, Barut and Devin. His brother, Bulent Ural, also survives him. Erdem's family will remember him for his constant love and support, his wisdom, and his unwavering commitment to their happiness and well-being. His friends, too, will remember him as a generous and kind-hearted man who was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Beyond his professional achievements, Erdem was a man of many interests. He had a particular fondness for international folk dancing, a hobby that connected him to his Turkish roots and brought him much joy. He also enjoyed walking, an activity that allowed him to appreciate the beauty of his surroundings and provided him with moments of tranquility. However, Erdem's favorite pastime was undoubtedly spending time with his family. Whether it was a simple dinner at home or a vacation, these moments of togetherness were what he cherished the most.

Remembered as a loving family man, a kind friend, and an intelligent professional, Erdem's life was a tapestry of accomplishments and happy memories. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who will follow in his footsteps. While Erdem's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, his life serves as a reminder of the impact one person can make through love, kindness, and intelligence.
