Douglas Tyree Obituary

Douglas Marshall Tyree, 58, of Norwood, Massachusetts, passed away on April 22, 2026, at home with his wife at his bedside, surrounded by the love of his family and the respect of all who knew him.

Douglas was born on February 18, 1968, in London, England, and was raised in Braintree, where he graduated from Braintree High School. He later went on to study at Butera Art School, a path that reflected both his creativity and his lifelong appreciation for craftsmanship, history, and design. Throughout his life, he carried himself with quiet pride, steady determination, and a genuine kindness that left a lasting impression on those around him.

For 27 years, Douglas made his home in Norwood, where he became a familiar and trusted presence in the community. He was the owner of Norwood Bicycle Depot, a business through which he shared not only his skill and knowledge, but also his generosity and patience. He always took extra time when helping children with their bikes, and he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed assistance. His care and dedication extended beyond his shop, as he also helped the Norwood Police Department with their fleet of bikes and volunteered his time on bike safety days and bike rodeos, offering his expertise in service to the town he loved.

Douglas was an accomplished artist whose talents were evident in many areas of his life. He enjoyed drawing, painting and sculpting. He was a member of the Canton portrait workshop that met weekly.  He had a deep appreciation for cycling, history, and classic cars, interests that reflected both his curiosity and his admiration for the enduring beauty of well-made things. He enjoyed the fellowship of fellow enthusiasts and was a proud member of the Oldsmobile Club of America and the Eastern Massachusetts GMO Oldsmobile Club. These associations brought him friendship and shared purpose, and he valued the connections he made through them. He was gifted with the ability to not only fix bikes and cars but able to master plumbing, electrical, general construction and fabrication.  His famous saying was “If you can break it, I can fix it”

He is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannie (Burkhead) Tyree. He was the son of the late Orrin and Marilyn (Hennebury) Tyree, and the stepson of Claire Tyree of Kingston. He was the step-brother of Kim DiStasio and her husband Robert of Kingston. He was also the brother-in-law of John Burkhead and his wife, Peta-Gaye, of Pennsylvania, James Burkhead and his wife, Regina of Hanson, and the late Carol Burkhead. He was the beloved uncle of Robby DiStasio, Johanna Joy Burkhead and the late Christopher Burkhead. He was the nephew of Sheila Hennebury of New Hampshire, Claudia Mathena of Maine and Mitra Tyree of California. He is survived by many cousins whom he loved dearly. Douglas cherished his family, and his presence in their lives will be deeply missed.

Those who knew Douglas will remember his warm spirit, his steady work ethic, great sense of humor and his willingness to help others without hesitation. He had a way of making people feel welcome, whether they came to him for bicycle repairs, conversation, or simply a friendly word. His life was marked by kindness, creativity, and devotion to the people and passions that mattered most to him.

Douglas Tyree will be remembered with love and gratitude by his family, friends, customers, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the work he completed with care, and the many memories he leaves behind.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass, held on Thursday, May 7th at 10 a.m. at St. Oscar Romero Parish, Canton. Burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Canton.
