Donald Gorin Obituary

Donald Eugene Gorin, affectionately known as Don to his family and friends, passed away on December 14th, 2023, at the Ellis Nursing & Rehab Center in Norwood. Born in Alton, Illinois, Don led a life marked by achievement, dedication, and unwavering love for his family. From his early days in Alton, Don was recognized as a natural leader and a gifted athlete. His high school years were distinguished by his role as class president and his prowess in sports. This early promise of leadership and teamwork followed him into adulthood as he pursued higher education at Southern Illinois University. Don made his home in Brighton, Illinois, until 1977. He then moved to Florida where he met his wife Paula before moving to MA in 1984 and settling in Norwood in 1998. Don's professional life was characterized by his steadfast work ethic first in establishing his own home service business in Illinois and Florida and later in security first at Stone & Webster Engineering and later at the Fox Hill Village in Westwood. His years of service there were marked by the respect and trust he earned from both colleagues and residents. Upon his well-deserved retirement, Don left behind a legacy of integrity and dedication. Family was the cornerstone of Don's life. He was a beloved husband to Paula Gorin (née Greenberg) and a father who instilled values of hard work and love in his children, Kelly Broyles of Brighton, Illinois, Sharon Windham and her husband Vic of Godfrey, Illinois; Donald Gorin and his wife Theresa of Chesterfield, Missouri, and Michael Gorin and his wife Cherie of Sharon, Massachusetts. The joy of being a grandfather to James and Jordan Broyles; Christian James “CJ” Windham; Henry, Ben and Ryan Gorin; and Liam Gorin as well as his 5 great grandchildren was a role Don cherished deeply with much pride. His legacy continues to live on through their lives. Don was also a loving brother to James Gorin and his wife Elizabeth of Scottsville, Texas, Edward Gorin and his wife Alice of Piasa, Illinois, and he fondly remembered his late brother Gary Gorin. The bond he shared with his siblings was one of mutual respect, a testament to the family values that were so important to him. His interests extended beyond his family life. Don was a passionate fan of Boston sports; not to mention his undying loyalty to his St Louis roots; a loyalty that mirrored his own dedication and commitment. His genuine and compassionate nature made him a beloved figure to those who knew him. Don's sincerity and kindness never went unnoticed, and his good nature earned him the respect of many. Those who knew Don best would describe him as loving, kind, and friendly. He was a man who welcomed everyone with an open heart and extended a helping hand whenever it was needed. His caring spirit and warm presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Donald Eugene Gorin's life was one of purpose and joy. He was a man who found the greatest fulfillment in the happiness of his family and the simple pleasures of being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told and the lives he touched. As we say farewell to Don, we celebrate a life well-lived and the enduring impact he made on all of us. His legacy of love, kindness, and friendship will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his journey. Donald Eugene Gorin will be remembered with love and will always hold a special place in the hearts of his family and friends.
