David P Durant

David Peter Durant (85) passed away peacefully on April 13th with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Joan (Hallissey). Loving father of David Durant (Jenny) of Westwood; Kathleen Pingaro (Ronald) of Columbia, Maryland; and Daniel Durant (Karen) of Jamaica Plain. Cherished grandfather of Faye, Eleanor, Ryne, Ray, Kyla, Chase, Adelina, Lola, Zachary, and Caleb. Brother-in-law of Donna Hallissey of Jamaica Plain, and Richard Hallissey of Ft. Meyers, Florida. He is survived by many nieces and nephews along with many friends. 

David was the only child of Henry and Mary Durant, born on March 4, 1941, and raised in South Boston. He graduated from South Boston High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Education from Boston State College in 1961. He continued his studies there and received his M.Ed. in 1965. He finished his education with a National Science Foundation grant, earning a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame in 1970. He devoted 31 years of his career to Boston Latin School, teaching mathematics, coaching the math team and acting as the Assistant Registrar. He also taught night classes at Northeastern for many years.  

A few years after marrying the love of his life, Joan (Hallissey) Durant, they moved to Canton where they raised their family of three children. David and Joan were happily married for more than 58 years. They lived in Canton for 41 years and enjoyed a lifetime of fun adventures including many summer trips to Walt Disney World and North Conway, New Hampshire where you would often find him on a golf course. A lifelong reader, David particularly enjoyed murder mysteries. He also loved watching Scooby Doo mysteries with the grandchildren. In his retirement, you could always find him working on his latest Lego build. David will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, dedicated educator, and a man of quiet strength and kindness. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home on Thursday, April 16, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 17, at 10 a.m. at St. Oscar Romero Church. Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
