Chris Jones Obituary

Christopher “Chris” Jones, 68, of Easton was called home unexpectedly on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Chris was born in Toronto, Canada in 1955, but was raised in the Dorchester section of Boston, MA where he lived for almost 30 years.

Chris is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen (Connerty), his daughter, Rachael Wong, her husband Brandon, and their daughter, Nora of Long Beach, CA, his son, Brendan and his fiancé Emily of Alexandria, VA, and his sister Sandra White of Quincy, MA. Chris was the fun uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha (Davis) and father, Robert Jones.

Chris followed in his father’s footsteps and attended Boston Tech High School where he learned the printing trade. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served honorably for four years at numerous duty stations in the United States and overseas. While serving our country Chris became a naturalized US citizen. His military service instilled discipline and patriotism that stayed with him for the rest of his life. Upon returning to civilian life, Chris returned to the printing trade and worked along side his father for several years before entering a lottery for a job with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Chris went on to work for the MBTA for 25 years where he was beloved by his co-workers and passengers alike.

Chris’s family was his whole world, and there was nothing he loved more than spending time with them. Chris was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 38 years, Kathy. He and Kathy built a beautiful family together and created so many lasting memories over the years because he said yes to every plan Kathy made. Chris was never too busy to throw the baseball around, go to a sports game, have a dance party, or make breakfast for a house full of kids after a sleepover. Even after his kids grew up and the family became geographically separated, Chris was still ever present in their lives. In the past 18 months Chris spent 27 weeks in California with his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter (the love of his life), and he loved every minute of his time with them. Just a week before he passed, he and Kathy took a last-minute overnight detour to Virginia on their way back from a trip to Florida to have dinner with his son and soon-to-be daughter-in-law.

Chris was a people person. His disarming demeanor and inquiring mind led to many interesting conversations.  He was the life of every party, and he never met a stranger. There was always a joke or wildly inappropriate story on the tip of his tongue. The world will have a little less laughter in it without him. Chris enjoyed golf and in recent years played often with his brother from another mother, Danny.  Chris enjoyed watching Boston sports and had much to cheer for over the years.

Chris was a Christian. His faith guided his path and sustained him through the trials and tribulations of life. He faced cancer and open-heart surgery with the calm of a person who knew he was not alone -Jesus was always by his side. He lived a life of gratitude for his many blessings.

The family invites all those who knew and loved Chris to celebrate his life on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Visiting hours will be held at Dockray and Thomas Funeral Home at 455 Washington Street, Canton, MA from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and followed by a service at the funeral home starting at 1:00 pm.

Chris will be laid to rest on Monday in a private burial at Massachusetts National Cemetery.
