Charles Robert Ayer, age 94, of Canton, MA passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025 surrounded by his family. Charlie was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (Joyce) to whom he was married to for 46 years. Charlie is survived by his daughter Susan Grafton and her husband Glen of Bridgewater; his much loved grandchildren Jack, Matthew, and Abby Grafton; his son Robert (Bob) Ayer and his wife Darcie of Canton; loyal friend and grand-dog, Smith, & grand-cat Wesson. He also leaves behind sister-in-law, Geraldine Hurley and her husband Mike, niece and nephews (Christine Clinton-Sinai and her husband Nick, Stephen Clinton, and John McDonald and his wife Christine), and several extended family members.
A proud US Navy veteran, who served during the Korean War, Charlie was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 24 in Canton. Having served the post in various roles over the years, he leaves behind many cherished friends and fellow veterans from the Legion. He was a member of the MDC Police for many years at the Milton Barracks until retiring in 1995.
Visiting hours will be held at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington St., Canton, on Wednesday October 15th from 4-7 pm. His Funeral Mass will be held at St. Oscar Romero Church, Canton, on Thursday, October 16th at 10:00 am followed by his burial at St. Mary's Cemetery in Canton.
As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that donations may be made to the American Legion Post 24, 950 Washington Street, Canton, MA in memory of our beloved Charlie who found great camaraderie and purpose there.
