Bertha "Bea" Zakur Obituary

Bertha M. "Bea" Zakur, 81, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly at her home on July 14, 2024. She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Bertha Lagsdin. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Bea grew up in the town of Sharon and was a graduate of Sharon High School.

Bea was the beloved partner of Paul Croce of Middletown, RI, dear sister of the late John Lagsdin and loving aunt to Ann Maguire and her husband Bob of Abington, John Lagsdin III and his partner Donna Cummings of Norwood, and Jim Lagsdin of Stoughton. Bea found great joy in her role as a great aunt to Kate and Rob Maguire. She will be remembered fondly by them for her kindhearted and unwavering support.

Professionally, Bea brought diligence, hard work and warmth to her work, dedicating over 47 years of service to FM Global in Norwood, where she worked as an Executive Assistant before her retirement. Bea's work ethic and commitment to her role were matched only by her genuine dedication for her colleagues and her friendship to her many true friends.

Bea's love for cooking brought her family and friends together to enjoy her delicious meals, creating many happy memories. Traveling to new places, tending to her garden and a collection of orchids, and bowling in a local league were among the activities that filled Bea's days with joy.

As a member of the Sharon VFW Ladies Auxiliary, she found camaraderie and purpose supporting America’s veterans and honoring their sacrifices, while contributing to the community she held dear.

A woman of fierce independence and strength, Bea navigated life with resilience and faced hardships with a brave face. She was thoughtful and caring, always considering the feelings and needs of others. Typically quiet in her ways, she was tolerant of individuals, and abhorred the intolerance of others.

As we bid farewell to Bea, we hold close the lessons of love, resilience, and kindness that she practiced, demonstrated and imparted to others. Bea's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were graced by her gentle but indomitable spirit.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Canton, MA on Thursday afternoon, July 18th at 1:15 pm.
