Bernard D. Morrissey, a cherished member of the Boston community and a beloved father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024, in Canton, MA, at the age of 84. Born on September 4, 1940, in Boston, MA, Bernard was the son of the late Michael and Regina Morrissey and grew up surrounded by his large and loving family.
After graduating from Boston Public Schools, Bernard proudly served his country as an Army veteran, 82nd Airborne, embodying a sense of duty and resilience that would define much of his life. His post-military career was marked by a strong work ethic as he took on the role of Laborer Foreman at a local construction company in Boston. Bernard was a prominent book collector and seller. He had a lifelong love of nature and books.
Bernard's life was one of dedication – to his work, to his country, and most importantly, to his family. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Karen Benson and her husband David of Canton, and Jennifer Morrissey. His love for his family knew no bounds, and this was further illuminated in his role as a doting grandfather to Madeleine and Liam Benson, whose lives were greatly enriched by his love and wisdom.
In addition to his immediate family, Bernard's legacy is carried on by his brother Michael Morrissey of Holbrook, and his sisters Genevieve Cahill of Duxbury, Marilyn Bloomstein of Abington, and Lorraine Merrick of Yarmouth Port. He was predeceased by his siblings Bernadette, Dennis, and Vincent Morrissey, with whom he now rests in peace.
A private service will be held to honor Bernard's life, where his family will gather to share memories and pay tribute to a man who was truly one of a kind.
