Arcangelo "Lino" Mariano

Dr. Arcangelo "Lino" Mariano of Canton, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025.  Lino was born in Bonito, Italy on July 14, 1933.

Lino's early life in Italy instilled in him a love for family and tradition, which he carried with him when he immigrated to the United States at age 13.  Lino’s family settled in Hyde Park where he graduated from Hyde Park High School.  His determination and intellect led him to Boston University, where he completed his undergraduate studies and earned his medical degree from Boston University Medical School.  Following medical school he was stationed with the U.S. Navy (U.S.M.C.) at Camp Pendleton.  He then settled in Canton, Massachusetts, where he raised his family.

Lino's professional life was marked by dedication and excellence.  From 1966 to 2003, he maintained a successful surgical practice in Canton.  His expertise as a general and vascular surgeon was renowned at Norwood Hospital, where he served in various roles, including Chief of Surgery, Chief of Vascular Surgery, Chairman of Research and Development, President of the hospital medical society and as a Trustee of Norwood Hospital. 

A lifelong learner and mentor, Lino was deeply involved with Boston University Medical School, contributing as a Member of the Board of Directors, School of Medicine Alumni Association and Instructor of Clinical Surgery.  He also lent his expertise to the Mass Hospital School in Canton, where he served as a Consultant in Surgery.

Outside of his professional life, Lino's passions were many and varied.  He enjoyed the warmth of Ormond Beach, Florida during the winters, and was an avid golfer, taking pride in his membership at the Milton Hoosic Club in Canton and Plantation Bay Country Club in Ormond Beach Florida.  He was an avid follower and fan of Boston sports teams.  Lino's love for sports also led him to serve as the traveling physician for the New England Patriots for over a decade, a role he truly enjoyed.

Lino's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife, Kathleen M. Mariano (Walker), and his loving children, Susan Mariano of Stoughton, Thomas Mariano and his wife Amy of Stoughton, and Jennifer Smith and her husband Lee of Concord.  He was a proud grandfather to Gianna, Gabriella, Claire, Jason, and Rebecca.  His siblings and their families, Diletta Nannery of Canton, Carlo Mariano of Mendon, Vincent "Jimmy" Mariano of Hyde Park, Robert Mariano of Canton, and Mary Lisa Caulfield of Canton, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will fondly remember his warmth and guidance.

Lino’s life was a testament to the power of hard work, compassion, grace and dedication.  He touched the lives of many, both family and beyond, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.  His memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Church in Canton on Friday November 7th at 11:30 am.  Burial will be private at a future date.
