Anne Riordan Obituary

Anne T. (Langill) Riordan, age 87, of Canton, MA and Edgewater, FL, passed away in the comfort of her “favorite” bed, surrounded by her adoring family, on Monday, June 12, 2023.

Born in Norwood, MA on January 31, 1936, she was the loving daughter of the late Howard J. and Margaret J. (Cody) Langill. A Canton native for her entire life, Anne graduated from Canton High School and met her love of almost 70 years, Timothy J. Riordan, at an ice cream shop in Canton. After getting married, they settled down on Lake Road and began a family. Over the years, Anne worked at Unda’s Bus Company and was a long time parishioner and volunteer at St. James Church in Stoughton.

Anne was known for her big heart and unmatched generosity. It gave her immense joy to help a loved one, a dear friend, or even a complete stranger in need - and she did so on countless occasions over the course of her lifetime. Anne also dearly loved to laugh (sometimes at the expense of her kids/grandkids) and she had a terrific sense of humor and quick wit. Her greatest legacy, however, was being “Nana Riordan.” She had a penchant for spoiling her grand/great-grandchildren with car rides to the Christmas Tree Shop for tchotchkes, McDonalds for Happy Meals, Crescent Ridge/Daddy’s Dairy for ice cream, and the Town Spa for pizza. Her family also acquired a fondness for Soaps, the Game Show Network, Nips Candy, Banana Popsicles, Word Searches, Bingo, Dunkin Donuts, and “Elbows with Butter and Kraft Parmesan Cheese” thanks to her.  These wonderful memories will keep us smiling and bring us great comfort until we meet glen to glen, and down the mountain side.

In addition to her husband “Tiny”, she is survived by her devoted children Debbie O’Brien and her husband “OB” of Canton, Betty Jane Doody and her husband Steve of Laconia, NH, Carol Vesey and her husband Tom of Canton, and Timmy Riordan and his wife Kathy of Canton. She was the cherished “Nana” of Stephen (Margaret) Doody, Kim (Jamie) McCourt, Kate (TJ) Tatarzyn, Bob (Joe) O’Brien, Sarah (Dan) Shaw, Emily Riordan, and Hannah Riordan. She also delighted in being the great grandmother of James and Josie McCourt, Teddy and Ellie Tatarzyn, and Nicholas Doody. She was the dear sister of Mary Caron and her late husband Walter of Florida, Betty Smith and her husband John of Brookfield, Cathy Nichols and her husband Bruce of Florida, and the late Lenny (Rosemary) Langill, Ellie (Henry) Holland, and Helen (Donnie) Russell. She was the sister-in-law of Marilyn Henley and her late husband Peter of Buzzards Bay, Joanne Sullivan and her late husband Leo of Easton, and the late Bill Riordan and his wife Claire of Canton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 16th, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home [455 Washington St., Canton]. Her Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Church [560 Page St., Stoughton] on Saturday morning at 10:30.  Burial to follow at Knollwood Cemetery.
